BaseLine & AceLine reformers: Everything you need to know

BodyBase has cracked the reformer revolution once and for all. Founder, Sabrina Albert, not only designed one, but TWO state-of-the-art Aceline and Baseline reformers which don’t just look sexy, but they’re incredibly effective too. Moreover, in a day and age where specializing in one particular sport such as pilates is considered the new norm, we took a different path.

We thought it was time to raise the bar and expand the possibilities of what can be done on a reformer machine. That’s why our two machines, the BaseLine and the AceLine, are great for pilates workouts but also for high-intensity, body pumping, muscle building, yoga and more. Let’s go into more detail about what makes our reformers stand out from the traditional pilate reformer.

Introducing the BaseLine & AceLine reformers

BaseLine Reformer Machine - benefits of a bodybase franchise

BASELINE

AceLine Reformer/Suspension Machine

ACELINE

BodyBase’s first reformer baby was born in 2019 along with our studio in Rotterdam which was soon followed by another in Amsterdam and two more in Hillegersberg! The baseline is the heart of BodyBase Studios and hosts our two signature concepts Base Gym and Base Flow. As you probably already know by now, we love to give options and offer something for everyone. So we took it one step further and created an all-in-one, home fitness machine, The AceLine. The Ace was just launched (2023) and has been carefully crafted into chic, elegant and efficient modern reformer – for your very own living room.

In the realm of pilates equipment, the traditional reformer is commonly recognised by its characteristic box, shoulder rests, and foot springs. However, in our innovative approach, we’ve reimagined the reformer, omitting these elements that we believe can limit the range of movement. Instead, we’ve integrated features that enable a broader array of exercises, significantly enhancing the overall pilates and fitness world, of which we will now go into more detail about ..

Add Quality, style and safety first

Our reformer machines are high quality, and carefully designed in the Netherlands to ensure maximum comfort and lasting use. The BaseLine creates a unique and clean studio atmosphere, while the Ace’s chic style fits perfectly in every home, hotel, studio and can even be taken outdoors. They both have a movable carriage with a silent and smooth ride. They are also both available in two colours so that you can choose what suits your space best. The only difference is that the BaseLine’s colour resembles the whole machine, whilst with the AceLine the customisation is in the cushions (the structure of the machine remains white).

So now we know it LOOKS good, but now let’s talk HYGIENE and SAFETY.

The Baseline

Although it’s not light, these studio reformers are made of steel yet padded out with comfortable cushions. This makes them ideal for intense, heavy-impact workouts but also perfect for those more flowing and softer workouts.

To ensure safety even more in our Studio classes, our beloved BaseLine is built with a closed beam instead of having the resistance exposed and a gaping wide hole in the platform. This means there’s no risk of falling through mid-workout or getting your clothes and hair stuck in the springs. The beam also makes it more hygienic. The BaseLine can be wiped and fully cleaned in a minute.

The Aceline

As for the Ace, cushions can be removed and washed, improving overall cleanliness and maintenance. It is also much lighter compared to most reformers weighing approximately 30kg. Additionally, we wanted to give you total freedom to move it around – so yes, our AceLine comes with wheels!

Endless workout possibilities for all levels

At BodyBase we believe in balance and encourage one to participate in multiple types of workouts to complement each other. That’s why, we wanted to make sure you could do it all with one machine, whether you prefer it in the studios or at home. BodyBase machines target your entire body through prolonged periods of tension, in every move. Challenging your body using resistance in combination with balance, means your muscles are continuously working while targeting your full body. Resulting in a killer core and booty, improved flexibility, mobility and balance. Our reformers easily adapt to your goals, desired intensity and individual body type (height, strength). Let’s take a closer look at how we ensure this.

Resistances

The key for effectiveness, is to get the most out of your experience without any hassle- for example avoiding complications when attaching or detaching springs. Having the ability to take away or add more resistance aids your progress to reach the next level. Our resistance method was specially designed to be switched in just a second without spending too long or interrupting your workout, unlike the former reformers, where in most cases it requires you to step off the machine, and carefully haul the springs into place.

The Baseline

It has 5 resistance options: 1 light, 2 medium and 2 heavy, that you can combine different to maximize your workout. These resistances also use a click-in click-in-click-out mechanism, meaning it’s super easy and quick to change weight!

The Aceline
Has a different resistance system made of elastic cords and, as a unique feature, resistance can be hooked in – hooked out from both sides. You will find two light,  medium and heavy resistances each – divided so that there is one of each on either side of the machine. This gives you the option to perform push and pull exercises from either end of the reformer.

Ropes

Ropes on a reformer are crucial as they add versatility, adjustable resistance, and support, enabling a wide range of exercises that target various muscle groups and enhance core strength and stability. Both the BaseLine and the AceLine have 3 adjustable sizes which makes life easier and again allows for more options depending on the exercise or person. On a traditional reformer there is a set of high ropes at the end of the machine which allows for pulling exercises for the core, legs and upper body. On the other hand, our crafty studio BaseLine design includes a set of high and low ropes which not only means you can do everything one can on a traditional machine but you can also access and target deeper muscles in the glutes, back and shoulders and more with the option to pull from a lower angle.

Two bases

While the traditional reformer has one base on one side, BodyBase machines have two bases, front and back, where one can place their hands and feet for additional space for movement and stability.

 The Baseline

The BaseLine’s bases are wider and bigger than traditional ones, providing additional height for plyometric workouts that include jump squats or Bulgarian lunges for example. In addition, whether you’re short, tall, medium or large… or maybe even just a little less stable, one can perform a larger range of exercises in comfort. Moreoevr, there are intensity levels added onto the base which allow you to measure your strength, flexability and overall progression.

The Aceline

As a portable machine you will see that the Ace’s bases are not as wide as the studio ones, yet they are big enough for you to sit or stand on the. In addition, the Ace was also designed to have shorter legs, meaning you’re closer to the ground which can be used to your advantage, for example when performing dynamic lunges – with one foot on the reformer and the other on the floor.

Handles

Now let’s talk about our best buddies for support, switching intensity levels without adding weight and even height variation in certain exercises, our fabulous handlebars.

The BaseLine

Our studio reformer has handles on the front and the back end of the carriage – meaning you can increase or decrease the intensity of certain exercises or make it more convenient such as a incline press up or pike. PLUS these handles are moveable so if you wanted you could ditch them completely or turn them around to explore more exercise options such as putting your feet on them for a pike or your hands for push ups. Meanwhile, the traditional ones have one closed and stationary handle at the front, which can limit your choice of exercise

The AceLine

As for the Ace, they are placed on one side only as we wanted to leave the opposite side free for movement to expand your possibilities even more. Moreover, If you’re looking to add extra height to your workout such as tricep dips or incline push-ups, they will be a great tool for you! And if you don’t, you can even remove them. Your workout, your way!

Meet our most unique feature- Suspension training on the Ace & On Demand workouts

The Ace is the first reformer mounted vertically onto the wall. This added feature means the birth of a whole lot more exercises for the whole body. The Ace is two machines in one. To place it vertically you only need a wall mount which can be purchased from our shop! The reformer weighs 30kg so it’s super easy but better to mount it in pairs.
